The Useless Ones

So I’ve finished reading the book of Judges and I’m currently on 1 Samuel and how David is running away from Solomon. My previous readings have been about Moses and Joshua and the Israelites’ journey to the Promised Land.

In all my readings, one thing always resonates with me: God uses useless people. Well, seemingly useless at least.

Check it out: here’s Moses, an adopted Hebrew who became the Prince of Egypt. Now he knew he was a Hebrew and in the back of his mind he knew he didn’t just become Prince by coincidence. He felt he was meant for something, and that something he figured was to save his fellow Hebrews from slavery. Well, he tried doing it by himself, and guess where that took him? Away from Egypt, labeled as a murderer, and from prince, he became a shepherd. Now he feels utterly inadequate -useless. But forty years later, when he’s eighty -eighty!- God calls him and tells him to lead his people to the Promised Land. And the rest, we all know, is history.

How about Joshua? He was just a simple aide to Moses. He followed Moses around and was probably like Moses’ personal assistant. He just followed and observed Moses. He was an assistant - useless. Yet he rose to became Israel’s leader, a great general, and as long as he ruled Israel, peace reigned.

Check out Gideon. He came from the least of the least if the least.Useless. Yet God used him mightily. He defeated an army that outnumbered him - and he didn’t even lift a single finger!

Check out Samson - now this guy we can easily relate to. He’s the most emotional dude in the Bible. Easily swayed by emotions, driven by lust, distracted by his carnality -useless!But God still used him!

Check David: a shepherd boy, youngest of his brothers, and he wasn’t even invited to the party his father held when Samuel came to look for the next king. Useless. Yet we all know who David became.

God loves to use useless people! He loves to turn them around into someone great, someone who does mighty things for him. Why? Because in there, those people see that it’s not because of their talents and skills that they’re able to do these things - it’s because God has chosen them!

So if God has called you and you feel inadequate, weak, useless- then good! That’s normal! You should be feeling that! Don’t put confidence in yourself. Admit your limitations and weaknesses and let God change you, mold you, and equip you, and you’ll see that He’ll take you to greater heights and that you will have great exploits for His Kingdom :)

Don’t look at what God has for others. It will cause you to miss what He’s got for YOU!

We’re all just a bunch of screw-ups looking for love that can only be found through Jesus dying on the cross. God is gracious.

We’ve been putting off posting this because it’s almost impossible to get a clear screencap, but huzzah! A wild gif appeared! We all love Heather Morris as Brittany S. Pierce, we’ve seen her dance alongside Beyonce and we’ve spotted her in The White Tie Affair’s “Candle (Sick and Tired)” music video. But here is perhaps her biggest accomplishment: she was a suit dancer in the amazing Nothing Suits Me Like A Suit dance number on How I Met Your Mother. (In the same episode as Stacy Kiebler!)
Thank you so much to corrieo for submitting this! We had tried and tried and couldn’t find a clear screencap/gif so clearly you are the best for submitting one and we love you. <3
